What is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)?

CBT is a talking therapy that has been proven to treat a wide range of psychological, physical and health conditions. CBT looks at how we think and feel about specific situations and how this affects the way we behave. CBT seeks to explore the relationship between our thoughts, feelings and actions with a view to change or alter them in pursuit of our goals.

There is a great deal of research that supports to use of CBT when treating a range of psychological and physical conditions. It is recommended as the treatment of choice for anxiety and depressive disorders by NICE (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence), as well as it having a wealth of support for the application to other problems and conditions.

CBT can be accessed as a stand alone treatment, or can be accessed in conjunction with the prescription of medication. This may depend on the type of area that you want help with. It is usually delivered in a time bound, structured manner, with duration varying between 4 and 20 sessions.
